Pirenópolis in 4 days: a relaxed pace and distant waterfalls

Four days let you include a distant waterfall and still have free time in town.

Updated on October 4, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 4, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original

Four days give you breathing room. You cover the essentials, add a more distant waterfall and still keep half a day to rest, revisit a favourite or dodge the rain.

Day 1 — Historic centre

Time Plan
Morning The historic centre and the Museu do Divino
Afternoon The Igreja Matriz and the Igreja do Carmo
Evening Rua do Lazer

Day 2 — Forest and adventure close to town

Morning Vagafogo Sanctuary: riverside trail and brunch (book on its website)
Afternoon Cachoeiras Bonsucesso, about 5 km from the centre
Evening The Igreja do Bonfim from outside, then dinner

Day 3 — A distant waterfall on the GO-338

Time Plan
Morning Early start for Cachoeira do Rosário (25 km paved + 10 km dirt) or Cachoeiras dos Dragões (about 40 km)
Afternoon Hike and swim; head back before dark
Evening Rest

Day 4 — Mountains and farewell

Time Plan
Morning Pireneus State Park
Afternoon Vargem Grande Ecological Reserve or craft shopping in the centre
Evening Trip home or a last night in town

If it rains

Swap day 3 or 4 for a town day: museums, Fazenda Babilônia (guided tour and farm breakfast), food. See Pirenópolis on rainy days.

To add rural heritage and more waterfalls, see the 5-day itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

Rosário or Dragões: which to pick for the longest day?

Both are along the GO-338 highway. Cachoeira do Rosário has a 42 m fall and limits the number of visitors per day; Cachoeiras dos Dragões has eight falls along a trail of about 4.5 km. Choose by the hike you want to do, and book ahead.
