Fazenda Babilônia takes Pirenópolis’s history beyond the town centre. According to the City Hall, it is a former colonial sugar mill, more than 200 years old, located at km 3 of the GO-431 highway. Visits are guided and can be combined with a farmhouse coffee (“café da fazenda”).
Why visit
The historic centre tells the urban story of the gold era; Babilônia shows the rural side of colonial Goiás’s economy, based on sugar production. If you enjoy heritage, it is a natural complement to the churches and the Museu do Divino.
A regional news report says the farm was listed by Iphan, Brazil’s national heritage institute, in 1965. We did not find this information on an Iphan page, so we mention it with that caveat.
How the visit works
According to the City Hall’s listing:
- visits are guided;
- there is a standard visit option and a visit with coffee;
- the farm opens on specific days of the week;
- for the coffee/brunch, you are advised to get in touch beforehand.
Prices checked on the official listing (may change):
Getting there
The farm is on the GO-431 (Rodovia Jarbas Jayme), which links Pirenópolis to the BR-153 federal highway, towards Anápolis. If you are coming from Goiânia (the capital of Goiás state) that way, it can be a stop on the way in or out — see Goiânia to Pirenópolis.
How to fit it into your itinerary

It is suggested in longer itineraries, such as the 4-day one, and in Pirenópolis second visit.
