Silver, sweets, delicatessens and the Feira das Artes: what to look for and how to shop safely.
Updated on October 4, 2026 ✓ Information checked on October 4, 2026 adapted from the Portuguese original
Pirenópolis is known for its silverwork, for pieces made from the region’s quartzite stone, for homemade sweets and for delicatessens selling products from the cerrado (Brazilian savanna). Shops and workshops are spread through the streets of the historic centre, and on weekends the Feira das Artes craft fair fills Praça do Coreto.
What to look for
- Silver: jewellery and objects made by local artisans and workshops.
- Stone: quartzite, found in the town’s pavements and buildings, also appears in decorative pieces.
- Sweets and quitandas: fruit sweets, liqueurs and traditional Goiás baked treats.
- Cerrado products: delicatessens sell items such as nuts, preserved pequi, cachaças (sugar-cane spirit) and coffees.
- Assorted crafts: ceramics, weaving, woodwork and decorative objects.
Shopping tips
- Ask for a nota fiscal (official receipt) and ask about origin and materials, especially for silver.
- Compare before buying. The centre is small; it is worth browsing a few shops.
- Pack fragile stone and ceramic pieces well for the journey home.
- Drinks and food: check expiry dates and transport rules if you are flying afterwards.
- Opening hours: many shops are busiest on weekends and public holidays.
